I, Monster (1971)

Rather foolishly, Dr. Charles Marlowe (Christopher Lee) decides to test his anti-inhibition serum on his pet cat. After injecting the poor creature, it goes berserk, knocks a shelf full of jars to the ground, and then attacks him.

Marlowe is forced to beat the cat to death with a poker, but the look of sadness on his face shows that he deeply regrets his actions.

Near the end of the movie, Frederick Utterson (Peter Cushing) walks around his apartment while stroking and occasionally kissing a tabby kitten.
