Cosmo
Detective Lucas McCarthy (Lance Henriksen) gets his first jump scare due to his cat. Cosmo has the good sense to then disappear before the real trouble starts although his bloody corpse does appear in the horrific manipulation of reality later.
Fortunately, Cosmo is discovered alive and well in a cardboard box at the end.
The movie's alternative title is "House III" in spite of being completely unrelated to the other "House" sequels.
