The part of an alley cat's brain which gives it nine lives is surgically implanted into a vagrant named Ulric (Joe Pantoliano) as an experiment.
Having become a sideshow act, Ulric has hallucinations of another cat when he dies on stage.
It's too late for Ulric when he remembers back to the day of the surgery.
No matter how grateful he is to the cat, miscounting the number of lives that he had left can only lead to one thing.
The tale ends with a black cat visiting Ulric's now permanent grave.
The Crypt Keeper (Jon Kassir) strokes the same black cat briefly before gleefully yelling at it to scat.
