Vesper
What appears to be a stray cat is adopted by teacher Gwen Mayfield (Joan Fontaine). Gwen later learns that the cat belongs to a local old lady, Granny Rigg (Gwen Ffrangcon Davies), who whispers to Vesper, "Follow her."
In spite of following Gwen immediately, Vesper only makes one more appearance back at Granny Rigg's house when he clearly doesn't like Alan Bax (Alec McCowen). It's not unusual for a witch's familiar to not like a clergyman, but maybe there's more to it than that.
