There are two cats in this movie. Not only does Catherine Martin (Brooke Smith) have a pet cat waiting at home for her, but Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) is led to an important clue by the late Federica Bimmel's feline companion.
And no, the answer is not that Frederica was a great big fat person who loved cats. That bit is kind of obvious.
